On Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer of Mercado Bitcoin, Reinaldo Rabelo, stated to Cointelegraph that the company is currently waiting for regulatory approval in Mexico.

Rabelo told Cointelegraph Brasil in April that buying a crypto exchange was easier than starting over.

As part of Mercado Bitcoin’s expansion into Portugal, 2TM Group took a controlling share in CriptoLoja in January.

Coinbase reportedly abandoned talks to buy 2TM, valued at more than $2 billion, in May.

Rabelo said 2TM was “looking at the Latin American market more cautiously owing to the macroeconomic condition,” but he didn’t say where or if the company may grow next.

2TM works through Mercado Bitcoin, Blockchain Academy, Bitrust, CriptoLoja, and Portal do Bitcoin in Brazil and Portugal.

Bitso services Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and El Salvador. Some Mexican senators wanted to legalize Bitcoin (BTC) in 2021. CBDC could be introduced in 2024.
