The developer of Overwatch 2 has confirmed that additional characters will be accessible through the Battle Pass.

Even though there will be brand new characters in Overwatch 2, not everyone will be able to use them at the same time.

According to what has been disclosed by the game’s creators, all upcoming characters will instead be protected by annual Battle Passes.

When the game first started in 2016, all heroes were made accessible to all players. This remained the situation until the addition of Echo in 2020,

Who was the last hero to be added. But after the 4th of October, when Overwatch 2 is launched, it won’t be the case any more.

Instead of just including a new hero in the game’s cast of characters, the creators have decided to use an innovative method of distribution.

The new Battle Pass approach will, at some point in the future, make heroes reliant on the player being able to unlock them.

The internet originally resisted the update. Jon Spector, Overwatch’s Commercial Lead, went to Twitter to clarify.

This ensures that nobody must pay to use a hero. Growing your group and joining the battle as a new character simply requires a little effort.

Nobody knows this project’s details. If new characters are published early in a seasonal Battle Pass, users may unlock them after a few battles.

On the other hand, they could only have access to the most basic free tier, which requires a significant investment of either time or money to unlock.
